What is Robot Restaurant?
It takes a matter of seconds to run into “Robot Restaurant” when googling “Things to do in Tokyo”. Robot Restaurant is one of the most popular tourist experiences for visitors to Tokyo. What exactly is it though? Robot Restaurant is less of a restaurant and more of a restaurant that puts on one of the wildest and most techy spectacles you will ever see.
What is the Show Like?
Picture the weirdest, craziest, and most confusing spectacle you can imagine, and multiply it by 10- That is Robot Restaurant. The show is absolutely nuts! Robotic dinosaurs, robots dancing to Michael Jackson, lasers, large cats, screaming girls, sword fights, and probably a thousand other random things I can’t remember. The show, in essence, is a potpourri of random spectacles. Don’t expect a story or a plot (although I’m sure there is one). Just come here to enjoy a few of their lemon drinks as you watch one of the craziest shows on earth
How is the Food?
Even though it’s considered a restaurant, most people do not eat here. The food is mediocre and pricey. I would encourage you to plan to eat before or after the show. You can hit the famous piss alley street for lots of food options and then hit Golden Gai for your pre and post-drinking experience.
Where Do I get Tickets?
If you google “Robot Restaurant Tokyo” you can use google checkout to buy tickets. Tickets are around $70 and can potentially sell out a few days before the show. The venue inside is relatively small, so there isn’t any seating that you have to pick. All seats have great views of the show.
So Should I Go?
My vote is yes! Is this a tourist trap? 100%. Did I regret it? Not at all. I did this on my first night in Japan, and boy was it a wake-up call. Any jet lag I was feeling was wiped away with the sheer energy and madness of this performance. If you don’t believe me, just YouTube other people’s reactions to this show. You’ll have a hard time finding anyone that truly understands what it is they just saw
